We've had a little rash of illness here in the Richardson household. One child, in particular, has now had two bouts of strep throat in the last three weeks. Ugh. Surprisingly, though, we have found dealing with illness (at least simple illnesses) here in Serbia to be significantly easier than back in the States. First, we have an outstanding health unit at the Embassy that is very responsive; we can almost always see the doctor within a few hours when there is a problem. Second, antibiotics can be purchased here without a prescription, which is extremely convenient. Third, and we just learned this recently, on weekends and holidays, labs make house calls. So, when we thought the strep throat had reappeared last weekend, the health unit sent someone from a local lab out to our house to do a strep test. Now that's what I call service!! Just one of the many little surprises here in Serbia that have made our time here pretty delightful.
