I would be remiss if I did not write about the devastating flood that overtook our hometown, Nashville, TN, this past weekend. It started raining there on Saturday morning, and by Sunday afternoon, 15 inches had fallen and much of the city literally was under water. As luck would have it, Eli was flying into Nashville on Saturday evening (he's only been back to Nashville once since March of 2009, so his timing was impeccable!). He made it into town, but barely; by Sunday afternoon, Southwest had cancelled all flights, and the airport had all but shut down.
Honestly, although I've now looked at tons of pictures of the city under water, it's hard for me to imagine what it must really be like there. Fortunately, the sun is out now and the waters are beginning to recede, and all of our friends and family -- as far as we know -- are safe. More than twenty people died in the flood, though, and many more lost everything or nearly everything they owned.

The pictures are overwhelming. My sister just moved into a new house and had a river running through the front yard and trees falling down around them. I can't beleive we'll be there in 5 weeks. Hopefully things will dry out quickly...
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed, Carrie. So sorry to hear about your sister's house/property. Eli went by our house this morning, which apparently fared quite well, so we are relieved, to say the least. We may have some maintenance done on the house before ya'll move in -- can you remind me of the move-in date?
