Heat!

We had a HOT summer here in Belgrade. Much to my dismay, the heat persisted into September and even into October. In fact, we were at a birthday party this past Saturday, and it was HOT! Well, then, on Sunday, it got COLD. That was October 11th. We went out for part of the day, came home, and were COLD in our house. Now, it is not unusual for weather patterns to be erratic. Folks all over the place have been dealing with crazy weather this year. What is strange, however, is living in a place where turning on your heat is not an option until October 15th. You see, the city of Belgrade regulates the gas supply to residences, and the main gas line isn't turned on until October 15th. So, if it is unseasonably cold before then, and you would like to be warm, you had better head for the blanket closet or start putting on layers, because if you live in Belgrade, there's no heat for you, baby, until October 15th!!

We've now had heat for a day, and are enjoying being warm, although with heat emanating from the many radiators in our house, it can be too warm (even with the radiators turned down all the way), and so we will be opening windows to let a little cool air in so we don't sweat to death. But, we're glad to have heat, and once again, the kids are enjoying the heated floors in the kitchen and bathrooms -- they have resumed their daily ritual of stumbling out of bed and onto one of the heated floors first thing in the morning. This definitely wasn't part of our daily routine in Nashville, and I have to believe that it will be one of the things that our kids will remember with fondness from our time here in Belgrade.
